Short description of the group/project/topic of research
The Department of Complex Biological Interactions is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a keen interest in the evolution and emergence of predatory fungi. This project employs comparative genomics to investigate how carnivorism independently evolved in the Ascomycota and Basidiomycota phyla of the fungal kingdom. Our lab has already assembled and annotated chromosome-level genomes for over a dozen species of nematode-trapping fungi, and we plan to generate additional genomic assemblies for several species of Pleurotus mushrooms. Through genomics and comparative genomic analyses, we aim to identify the genes and genomic features critical to the evolution and emergence of a predatory lifestyle in fungi. Candidates should possess a strong background in comparative genomic analyses and evolutionary biology, along with demonstrated experience in these areas. The ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team is also essential for this position.
