Short description of the group/project/topic of research
We are currently seeking a postdoctoral fellow in Integrative Modelling & Electron Microscopy to join our new and growing team at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Mainz.
Collagen is the most abundant protein of our body, and yet, structural knowledge of how it is organized is surprisingly scarce. Your project will aim at the first ever high-resolution structure of collagen I. The integrative modelling efforts towards this aim will combine our rich and very promising electron microscopy data with crosslinking, AlphaFold, and other data. The project will be embedded into the research ongoing within our ERC project RADICOL, the overarching goal of which is to redefine the role of collagen as a biochemically active protein material, with implications for tissue homeostasis, organism health and ageing.
