Short description of the group/project/topic of research
Requirements for the position include a strong record of self-motivated research (supported by peer-reviewed publications) and a PhD in theoretical biology, applied mathematics, theoretical physics, or a related area. In addition, we ask for excellent analytical and computational skills and a strong interest in working in theoretical biology.
Areas of interest include the role of population structure for evolutionary dynamics, evolutionary game theory, stochastic models in ecology and evolution, the evolution of complex life cycles, the dynamics of microbial population and models for infectious diseases. Most projects in the department have both analytical and computational components. The precise project will be co-developed with the incoming scientist and tailored to their interests and technical skills.

The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology is an internationally oriented institution whose research focuses on the principles, mechanisms and effects of evolutionary change. It is home to the Department of Theoretical Biology and the Department of Microbial Population Biology, and several independent research groups. The institute is located in Plön, a town in a beautiful lake area in Northern Germany, about an hour north of Hamburg. We offer state-of-the-art facilities and an interdisciplinary and international environment driven by scientific curiosity. The working language at the institute is English.
